Coronation of Mary
Mary has many names! We call Her the Mother of God, Queen of Peace, Our Lady of Victory, Our Lady of the Rosary, Blessed Mother. And that's only a few names! This is because She did so much for us! In this lesson we will celebrate Her.
Have you ever been to a May Crowning? In May the Church celebrates Mary. We place crowns of flowers on statues of Her. We set aside special times to pray the Rosary. We have grand parades. In May you can see a lot of things happening for Mary.
Why would we celebrate Mary in May? May is the month were spring really starts. Life in nature starts again. Mary brought Jesus into the world, giving us a new life. May is filled with special feast days to Mary.
In ancient times the mother of the king was always the queen. In modern times the wife of the king is usually the queen. Mary is Jesus’ mother. Jesus is the King of Heaven and Earth. It makes sense that She is the Queen of Heaven and Earth. After Jesus took Mary into Heaven, He crowned her. Mary is the greatest queen ever. She is the mother of the King of Kings, Jesus.
Mary is a great queen because she never sinned. On earth, Mary watches over us. In Heaven, Mary is the Queen of the angels and the saints.
The Devil was never able to trick Mary into sinning. Because of this, evil spirits fear Mary more than anyone else. While She lived on earth they never had any power over her.
We honor Mary through statues and images of Her. We honor Her with songs and prayers and hymns. Just as we place photos around our homes of the people we love, we also place special reminders around our home and church of Mary. We don’t worship those images of Her. We use them to remind us of Her love for us. Our love for Her is pleasing to Her Son, Jesus.
We honor Mary as our Mother as well as Queen. We go to Her with our prayers because we know that She will take them to Jesus for us. As our loving Mother and She will always help us.
