The Assumption of the Virgin
by Mateo the Younger Cerezo
Mary is the only human besides Jesus to be born without Original Sin. The sin of Adam and Eve never touched Her soul. In fact, no sin ever touched Her soul! God made her perfect and pure from the very start. Only someone with a perfectly clean soul could be God's mother. She was pure for Her whole life.
Many years after Jesus died, God decided it was time for Mary to come to Heaven. God didn’t take Mary the same way as everyone else. God took her soul and her body.
God took Mary, body and soul, into Heaven. Mary fell into a deep sleep. This is called Dormition. God then carried Her to Heaven.
We celebrate that Mary was taken up to Heaven. She is now the Queen of Heaven and Earth!
It makes sense that Mary would go right to Heaven. Mary stayed pure Her whole life. God wanted to be sure that nothing impure ever touched Her. He didn’t want Her body to decay. He took Mary's body and protected it.
A lot of saints have graves we can visit. This is not true for Mary. We also don’t have any first class relics of Mary. She doesn’t have a grave because there was nothing to bury. She didn’t leave any relics because all of Her was taken to Heaven!
Jesus crowned Mary Queen of Heaven and Earth. Mary is the closest person to Jesus. We can ask Her to take our needs to Jesus. We know Jesus will listen to Mary. That's why we ask Mary to place our petition before Jesus.
Mary is the spiritual mother to all of us. We find that Mary’s work did not end when she reached Heaven. She continues help us even now. She continues to be with us!
As Catholics we have a true devotion to Mary. She always points to Jesus. She prays for us. She is our intercessor. She knows Jesus better than anyone.
If someone were to tell you that your mother was a wonderful role model and a beautiful and holy woman, what would you think? I’m sure you must love your mother very much. To have someone else know how wonderful your mother is would make you very happy.
Now imagine how happy your Hail Mary prayers must make Jesus? Every time you pray a Hail Mary, Jesus knows how much you love and respect Mary.
When you need a special favor you can always turn to your Heavenly Mother Mary. She loves you very much. Mary is there to intercede. This means she can take your prayer to Jesus. Jesus loves His mother. He always listens to her. Trust in Mary to always help you!
There is an important difference between what happened to Jesus and what happened to Mary. Jesus ascended by Himself. He could do... Please purchase this lesson to continue learning.
