Joseph in the Pharaoh's Palace
by Jacopo Amigoni
Last time, we learned about Jacob and his twelve children. They show us the twelve tribes of Israel.
Joseph had ten older brothers. His brothers always thought that Jacob loved him most. Jacob even gave Joseph a very special coat with beautiful colors. This made his brothers jealous. They sold Joseph to Egypt. Joseph was very scared. But he prayed to God for help.
Joseph used the gifts that God gave him to help Egypt. In time, he also saved his family.
Joseph and Jesus
You know how a lot of Old Testament is preparing us for the New Testament? The word prefigure describes that. Joseph prefigures Jesus. We say that because they are a lot alike. Joseph was sold into slavery for twenty pieces of silver. Jesus was sold to the Romans for thirty pieces of silver. Most importantly, Joseph saved his family, while Jesus saved all peoples.
Good and Evil
Has something bad ever happened to you? When it does, you may want to know why God let it happen. Some people can't understand why He would let evil in the world. The reason is because God gave us free will. We can choose to love Him and follow Him. But we can also choose to reject Him. God still loves us and cares for us though. As we see in the story of Joseph, God still helps us. Sometimes God uses a bad thing to make a good thing happen.
Words to Remember:
We learned that:
Joseph prefigures Christ.
Joseph listened to God, even in the hardest parts of his life.
God gave us free will.
