Jesus taught us to pray the Our Father. Every word in it has special meaning. Let’s spend some time considering what this special prayer really says.
In the days of the Old Testament, the people were afraid to say God’s name out loud. After all He is the Creator of Everything! But Jesus told us we could say, “Our Father.” We’re saying that we all have the same Father. We are joined to each other. And God loves us and cares about each like a Father. Just as we love our earthly dads, so too do we love God our Heavenly Father.
WHO ART IN HEAVEN
God is in Heaven where we can’t actually see Him. But we can still be with Him when we go to Mass, receive the Eucharist, and adore Him in the Eucharist. When we say these words we remember that glory, beauty and goodness are in heaven and come from God.
HALLOWED BE THY NAME
When we say “Hallowed be Thy Name” we’re really saying that God’s name is very, very holy. His Name should be respected. We are reminded of the 2nd commandment. We should always use God’s name with respect and honor and praise.
THY KINGDOM COME, THY WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN.

GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD
There are so many things that we need. We trust that God will take care of us when we honor Him. Sometimes we are in need of food, shelter or safety. Sometimes we need spiritual help in times of trouble. Whatever we need, we trust that God will take care of us.
AND FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO TRESPASS AGAINST US
“Trespasses” means “wrongdoing.” God forgives us for our sins when we go to Confession. But He also wants us to forgive other people. This can be hard. If someone hurts you, you might want to hurt them back. But instead, we are called to forgive.
When we sin, we hurt God. But He still loves us and forgives us. We are called to love like that.
AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION
We ask God to keep us away from bad things. We trust that He will protect us.
Many times in life we are tempted to behave badly and to commit sins. We pray this prayer to ask for help so we won’t sin. We need to try hard to avo... Please purchase this lesson to continue learning.
