God calls everyone to serve the Church with their life in a special way. God gives everyone special talents and skills that make them specially qualified to perform a specific task for the good of the Church. God calls some people to be Priests, or Nuns or Deacons. Some people are called to be single, and some to be married. When two people get married, they are serving God, much like when a man is ordained a Priest he serves the Church.
Did you know that your mom and dad have been called by God to be married? Marriage is very important because it is a Sacrament. God called your mom and dad to get married and raise a Catholic family, and you are part of it!
Married people obtain special Graces from God. This Grace makes their union strong. Most importantly, this Grace sanctifies (remember, that means “makes holy”) the husband and wife. They are to help each other try to get to Heaven.
At the wedding ceremony the bride and the groom exchange vows in front of the Priest. A vow is a solemn promise to God and the other person. In the Nuptial Mass (the Mass where the wedding takes place), they are promising to be faithful to each other for their entire lives. They agree to love each other and be true to each other until death.
Matrimony means that the husband and wife are to demonstrate the love of Jesus. They make small sacrifices all the time to show this love.
All of the things that a father and mother do for the family can bring the family closer to God. Ordinary things, like washing the dishes, cutting the grass, making meals, washing your clothes and educating you are all holy activities. Even though these things seem ordinary, they can be holy and special through the Graces of Marriage.
Jesus elevated marriage to be a Sacrament because it is such a sacred institution. The Sacramental Grace of marriage does many important things for the husband and wife. It makes the natural love of the man and woman perfect. It elevates their love to the supernatural level. It makes their love a path for holiness and a wonderful way to work towards becoming a saint. It helps them be good and loving parents. It helps them make good and prudent decisions. It helps both the man and woman adjust to work well with one another.
God made the Sacrament of Marriage indissoluble, which means it can’t ever be broken because it is permanent. God wants couples to stay together, and to raise and educate children in the Catholic Faith.... Please purchase this lesson to continue learning.
