Beatitude means “blessed,” or “happy.” We know God wants us to be happy with Him in Heaven. Jesus is teaching us how to be happy people on Earth.
BLESSED ARE THE POOR IN SPIRIT, FOR THEIRS IS THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN.
Being poor in spirit means being happy with less stuff. We are happy with what God gives us, because we know He loves us very much.
BLESSSED ARE THEY WHO MOURN, FOR THEY WILL BE COMFORTED.
Being sad means that we care when something bad happens. Caring is like love. It opens our heart. Having an open heart helps us be close to God and live holy lives.
BLESSED ARE THE MEEK, FOR THEY WILL INHERIT THE LAND.
Meek people love and trust those who take care of them. They are happy to obey their parents, teachers, priests, and other leaders. They trust those who know more and can do more than they can.
BLESSED ARE THEY WHO HUNGER AND THIRST FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS, FOR THEY WILL BE SATISFIED.
God wants us to be holy people. Being holy is good! If you want to be holy, and always try your best to follow God’s Commandments, you will get what you want. The Holy Spirit is always with you, and gives you graces to live a holy life.
BLESSED ARE THE MERCIFUL, FOR THEY WILL BE SHOWN MERCY.
It’s hard to be nice to someone when they are mean to you, or don’t like you. But this is what God does for us.
We are not always nice to God. We don’t always listen to Him or show Him that we love Him. Because He loves us so much, it hurts Him when we aren’t nice.
God doesn’t stop loving us when we are mean to Him. He always wants us to be happy, and to live forever with Him in Heaven. He shows us love even when we don’t show Him love. God shows us mercy.
Mercy means giving love when you don’t get love. When someone makes fun of you, you don’t make fun of him. When someone hurts you, you don’t hurt her. When someone calls you names, you don’t call him a name. Instead, you only say nice things, and act kindly.
It’s not easy giving mercy. But when we show mercy, we teach others how to show mercy. We help them grow in holiness.
BLESSED ARE THE CLEAN OF HEART, FOR THEY WILL SEE GOD.
Remember when we learned that another word for clean is “pure?” Being pure means that we are free from sin. We are much happier when we are pure!
God is pure. When we are pure, we come closer to God, and see Him better.
BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS, FOR THEY WILL BE CALLED CHILDREN OF GOD.Please purchase this lesson to continue learning.
