The Passion and death of Jesus is very sad. But Jesus knew that His Passion and death would open up Heaven for us.
Jesus' Passion began with three things:
Jesus washed the Apostle's feet. This was a sign of love. Only slaves washed feet. Jesus was willing to be a slave to the ones He loves.
The Last Supper. This is the first Mass. Jesus gave the Apostles His body and blood. He used bread and wine.
Praying in the garden. Jesus did not want to be hurt. He told His Father this. Then Jesus said, “not my will, but yours.” Jesus wanted what God wanted more. After praying…
He Suffered under Pontius Pilate
Pontius Pilate was a Roman Governor. He was the boss of the soldiers who arrested Jesus. The soldiers did many bad things to Jesus. They hit Him. They cut Him with reeds. They made Jesus a sharp crown of thorns and made fun of Him. They spit on Him. Pilate could have stopped the soldiers but he didn’t.
The people who were mad at Jesus wanted Him to die. They didn’t care that Jesus was not a bad man. Pilate knew Jesus was not a bad man. He could have stopped Jesus’ death but he didn’t.
Jesus was put on a Cross. Nails went into His hands and feet to keep Him on it. Crowds stood around Him and watched.
Died and was buried.
After three hours on the Cross Jesus died. When He died a big earthquake shook the ground. It scared the crowds. They started to believe that Jesus was the Son of God. They felt bad that Jesus was killed.
A kind man named Joseph of Arimathea asked to bury Jesus. Joseph prepared Jesus’ body and placed Him in the Tomb.
